Udawalawe Elephant Safari
A full-day private safari to Udawalawe National Park — home to 700+ wild Sri Lankan elephants roaming freely across open savannah, voted among the best elephant encounters on Earth.
Overview
700+ Wild Elephants, One Perfect Day
Udawalawe National Park is Africa’s Serengeti — but for elephants. With over 700 resident wild Sri Lankan elephants, sightings are virtually guaranteed on every single game drive. These are not performing elephants or sanctuary elephants — these are fully wild, free-roaming giants living in their natural habitat. Enormous herds gather at dawn near the reservoir, mothers nursing calves, bulls sparring in the scrub.
Your private naturalist guide knows each herd’s territory and behaviour. The park also hosts leopards, water buffalo, crocodiles, jackals, and over 230 bird species. This is one full day of pure wildlife immersion you will never forget.
“We counted 94 elephants in a single herd crossing the road. I will never forget it as long as I live.”

“94 elephants in ONE herd crossing the road right in front of our jeep. One bull was close enough to touch (we didn’t!). Our guide Suresh has been leading Udawalawe safaris for 12 years and his knowledge of individual elephant families is phenomenal. The baby feeding at the Transit Home was heartwarming. Honestly one of the best days of my life.”
“Booked this as a day trip from our Galle hotel. The pickup was perfectly organized, the park entry was seamless, the guide was expert. We saw 200+ elephants, a leopard (rare!), water buffalo, crocodiles, and flocks of birds. By far the best safari value we’ve experienced anywhere in the world.”
