South Coast
Beach Bliss
3-day private escape to Sri Lanka's golden south — Galle Fort's Dutch colonial streets, Unawatuna's turquoise lagoons, stilt fishermen at sunset, and blue whale watching off Mirissa.
Overview
Galle, Whales & the Golden South Coast
Sri Lanka's south coast is a world apart — where Dutch colonial history meets pristine beaches, ancient stilt fishermen meet wildlife encounters, and world-class whale watching is just a short boat ride away. Begin in the UNESCO-listed Galle Fort, wandering cobblestone streets past centuries-old churches, boutique spice shops, and ramparts with ocean views. Continue to Unawatuna Bay, one of Sri Lanka's most beautiful beaches, for swimming and fresh seafood.
The highlight: a pre-dawn departure from Mirissa harbour to witness the blue whale — the largest creature ever to have existed on Earth — breaching in the Indian Ocean.
"The blue whale surfaced less than 50 metres from our boat. I couldn't breathe. Nothing prepares you for seeing the largest animal on Earth in the wild."

"The whale watching was the highlight of our entire Sri Lanka trip. Our captain knew exactly where to find them — within 20 minutes we had three blue whales alongside the boat. Galle Fort was magical too — so much history packed into those old streets. Perfectly paced tour."
"The stilt fishermen at golden hour, the whale at dawn, the Fort at sunset — every moment was picture-perfect. Our guide Kumara had such warmth and expertise. We've already recommended this to 10 people."
